LHH’s impact is measured in the significant intervention that our financial assistance brings to the lives of ordinary people. In 2017-18, the League helped 241 individuals/families with one-off grants.

LHH grants range from £50 to £250 maximum. Of the grants awarded, the average amount was £135 and the most frequently awarded amount was £100.

Grants were awarded towards the purchase of essential household furnishings such as beds, sofas and wardrobes; white electrical goods including cookers, fridge-freezers and washing machines; carpeting/flooring, clothing/footwear, utility bills/heating oil, hospital travel, daily living expenses and specialist equipment not supplied by the NHS/Local Authority.

Here are some testimonials from our end recipients and third party sponsors:

"A huge heartfelt thank you for the cheque I was given to buy a fridge-freezer.  I bought one straight away and now have a working fridge to store my medication, to which I am so grateful for.  Thank you so much!"

I am writing to thank The League of the Helping Hand for their recent grant of £200 towards petrol costs for the many hospital visits I attend on a regular basis due to my long term health condition, Rheumatoid Arthritis.  I was delighted to hear that I had been sucessful with my application."

"I write to thank the League of the Helping Hand for the grant awarded to xxx to allow her to purchase a fridge-freezer, for which I enclose our official receipt. xxx is thrilled with this grant and her support worker is taking her to purchase this equipment today  It will make such a difference to her to not have to have tea-towels on the floor to mop up the water that was leaking from her old appliance."

"Please could you say a big 'thank you' to your trustees for their kind offer of £150, which would make a big difference to xxx.  She's just over the moon and now she says that life is starting to look better for her."

"I am very pleased to inform you that the cooker is fitted and is making a significant difference.  The previous cooker was broken with the door being propped open by a mop and a paint pot!  It is difficult to convey how much the family are already benefitting from having something safe to cook on.  They have no other resources to fall back on even though they both work.  It was impossible for them to replace the cooker."

As you can see, the League makes a significant impact on the day-to-day lives of those who are eligible for our support.
